Letitia Wright Says Black Panther 2 Is Love Letter To Chadwick Boseman

Letitia Wright says Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a love letter to her late co-star, Chadwick Boseman.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finds director Ryan Coogler returning to Wakanda, continuing the stories for the beloved characters that were first introduced in his acclaimed 2018 film. However, the film has an inherent sense of tragedy due to the passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. The film looks to honor the actor’s legacy as King T’Challa, and Letitia Wright confirms that the film is very much a “love letter” to him.

Letitia Wright plays Princess Shuri, the younger sister to King T’Challa, who is said to have an expanded role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with some speculating that she will be the one that takes over the mantle. Wright expressed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon how the film honors her late-onscreen brother, Chadwick Boseman:

“I feel, for me, it’s a beautiful contribution to Chadwick’s legacy. I feel like it’s a love letter to him. I know every day that I went on set, I focused my energy on each scene to dedicate it to him. I wanted to dedicate excellence to this film so that he could be proud.”

Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Angela Bassett’s Ramonda remain the surviving members of King T’Challa’s family, and will certainly have an emotional core to the film due to the tragedy of losing their loved one. Given the previous film’s sizable impact on the industry, a film on this scale deserves to be given the royal treatment, and serve as a love letter to Chadwick Boseman, whose contributions to cinema during his short time on Earth will be remembered for years to come.

As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.
