Justin Bieber is sharing more about his health journey after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
The singer, whose face was partially paralysed due to the condition, can now smile widely. Justin shared the news with his 281 million followers in a short clip posted to his Instagram story as the song “Ice T” by Tems played in the background.
“Wait for it,” he wrote across the video as he showed the movement in his face.
He had revealed some of his symptoms in June last year including not being able to blink one of his eyes and not being able to smile on one side of his face.
“This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case, but obviously, my body is telling me I got to slow down, and I hope you guys understand, and I’ll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so that I can do what I was born to do,” he shared at the time.
He also shared that he’d be taking some time off from his Justice World Tour to focus on his health and undergo treatment which would involve regular facial exercises.
“It will go back to normal. It’s just time, We don’t know how long it will be, but it will be ok.”
According to the National Organisation for Rare Disorders, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is caused by the varicella zoster virus (the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. The virus is usually dormant but can be reactivated, impacting the facial nerve. It can cause facial weakness, paralysis in the face, a rash and hearing loss but can often be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs.
