We have a saying at CelebrityKind – don’t be fooled by the tabloids.
They like to pit women against each other (remember when Jessica Chastain had to clarify that she does not in fact hold a grudge against Jennifer Lawrence?), fabricate feuds (Melissa Joan Hart hasn’t even met supposed rival Lena Dunham in person yet so figure that one out!) and make out like it’s all a big competition (don’t get me started on those who wore it better? pages).
But when you look closely, women are supporting one another, cheering each other on and are there for each other all the time. These stories so rarely get a mention – and yet they highlight some of the most beautiful aspects of the sisterhood.
In a recent episode of Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast, actor and iWeigh founder Jameela Jamil shared one of these stories about the Duchess herself.
“During some of my hardest moments where I’m being the most maligned and harmed by the media, and sometimes also by the public, you have been such a sobering voice of unwavering support to me,” Jameela says.
“People don’t know that you frequently reach out to women who are having a very, very hard time. Privately. You reach out to us. You don’t do it publicly. You don’t come to get any glory, but you privately reach out to us in our most lonely and desperate moments. And we need more of that in the world.”
Jameela adds, “I appreciate you and thank you for that, ’cause those are some hairy moments and I needed that guidance.”
And she’s not the only one….
Model, media personality and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen answered a fan question during the Watch What Happens Live! after show where she revealed that Meghan reached out to her after experiencing pregnancy loss:
“She had written me about baby Jack…but yeah she is really wonderful and so kind – just as kind as everyone says she is.”
Tennis legend Naomi Osaka shared in an op-ed for TIME that Meghan was among a handful of people who supported her when she chose to skip press conferences at Roland Garros last year to look out for her own mental health.
And most recently, actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry revealed during this month’s Baby2Baby gala that one of his employees desperately needed baby formula but couldn’t get any due to a shortage across America. When fellow mum Meghan heard, she purchased some from London and had it sent over.
