A new Superman movie with Henry Cavill is far from a sure thing.
Black Adam featured Henry Cavill’s long-awaited return to the role of Superman, but the actor’s future as the DC Comics icon is still a mystery. Cavill has stated that he is committed to the role and Warner Bros. Discovery recently tapped James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead its DC Studios division, which is replacing Walter Hamada’s DC Films.
TheWrap reports that there is “no forward momentum” on a Superman movie as Gunn and Safran continue working on their roadmap for the DC Universe. Their plans for DC Studios are expected to be revealed in the next two months, based on an anonymous insider who spoke to the site.
The trade goes on to add that Henry Cavill has yet to sign a formal deal for more DC Universe appearances. Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t hired a writer or a director for another live-action Superman project, at least for the time being, so it’s still far off, if it even ends up happening.
Earlier this week, Amy Adams said that that she’s thrilled that Cavill appears to be back in the cape and thights, but she hasn’t be asked to reprise her role as Lois Lane. Adams made her first appearance as Lois in Cavill’s Superman debut Man of Steel and her character has served as his love interest ever since.
James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof. According to reports, Gunn is focusing on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Safran is handling things that are related to business and production.
This past Tuesday, Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav revealed that the two new DC Studios heads are close to completing a multi-year plan. Zaslav is the one they’re reporting to, but they will also collaborate with Warner Bros. Film Group co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
